I am super late on the Throbackback Thursday Jam today, I completely didn’t event realize it was Thursday! But I still wanted to get one in no matter what. My choice for today is one of my favorite songs Blackstar Ft. Common – Respiration. It was released on the album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star in August of 1998. The song pays homage to the streets of NY & Chicago. The lyrics are deep and relevant and this beat goes sooooo hard. This was good hip-hop.
I am also a fan of the samples from which many great hip-hop songs came, so I included the sample used for this song. It is Don Randi – “The Fox”. Check both out below.
Check the latest video release from Rita Ora for her song “Radioactive”. As always she looks absolutely beautiful. It don’t seem like she’s letting that corny Rob Kardashian drama bother her none at all. Congrats Rita on another dope project!

I definitely need to pass by and see this! I’m guilty of being a lover of the Hello Kitty/Sanrio when I was younger. Badtz-Maru was my favorite!

Fashionista (& very rich) twins, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have released a one-of-a-kind ‘pill bag’ at a cost of $55k. The bag is part of a collection of 9 different bags designed by world renowned Bristish artist Damien Hirst, ‘Damien Hirst & The Row.’ Each bag is made of black patent Nile leather (how exotic!) and will each cost $55k. A portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to UNICEF, but no details on how much.
This isn’t the first time the twins have released an extremely high price bag. They released a plain version of the same bag in 2011 for a price of $39,000. However this time around it’s coming with a little more controversy. Many people are saying that these bags glamorize the use of drugs, which is shocking due to the fact that the twins good friend, Heath Ledger died in 2008 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
Drama aside, it looks like each bag has sold out! Oh well, theres always next time for me…..HA I wish! I would love to know who bought these beauties and also know when someone is going to replicate this idea at a muchhhhhh lower cost. While zoning out to some music this morning a question came to mind, what the hell happened to R&b? I never turn on the radio and hear any good slow jams or ballads. NONE! You use to a least have the late night shows, the after 10pm shiit where they spoke real soft and talked about “adult” topics. Here in the NYC area I know you remember THEO!? On Power After Hours when 105.1 first dropped! His voice was madd unique. But all that is gone. I turn on the radio at 1:30am on a Tuesday night and it’s a hype ass French Montana song, like nah sorry but I DONT wanna hear that!
I miss R&b! So when I heard these 2 singles I fell in love! Tamar Braxton (yes sister of Toni) has released her single “Love & War” which shot to the #1 spot on iTunes beating out music heavy weights. Then there is Roc Nation artist Bridget Kelly whose been on the scene for a little, but is finally getting the shine she deserves. She just premiered the video for her single “Special Delivery” on 106&Park. Music like this gives me hope that artists are still out there grinding trying to maintain the genre and bring R&b back on the map.
The world changes, fashion, trends, & of corse music. What people like in 2012 is not what they would have liked in 1999. It is what it is. I hope these ladies stick around and get the recognition and radio time they deserve. Listen to both the songs below and let me know what you think!
